Making Room: An Intentional Pause for Ministry Leaders

Week Six: Making Room for Intention

DOWNLOAD A PRINTABLE OF WEEK SIX

Silence

Be still and attentive to God’s presence within and all around you

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead, and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Meditation

Close your eyes. Breathe deeply of God’s Spirit and grace.

A spiritual director I know gives these words of encouragement to new practitioners of centering prayer: God honors our intentions. For me it is a statement of grace that reminds me it is not our doing things perfectly that God honors; but God meets us where we are in our desire to join the dance of connection and relationship with God.

Earlier in Deuteronomy 6, the people of Israel are encouraged to keep God's commands "so it may go well with you." The people are invited to participate in God's rhythm of well-being and to make room for practices that continually draw them into that intention, and so into relationship with the One who continually invites them into life.

Reflection

+ As we enter this new year, how is God inviting you to participate in God's rhythm of well-being?

+ What practices will help draw you into that intention? How will you make room for them?

Silence

Breathe deeply of God’s Spirit and grace.

A Prayer for You as a Ministry Leader

Hold your hands or arms in a posture of receiving.

Gracious Lord Jesus, pour out your Spirit on your servant, (name). Again and again, draw them/me into a dance of connection and relationship with you. Meet them/me in their/my intention and enliven them/me by your life-giving rhythm of well-being. Amen.

Blessing

In darkness and in light, you are held, you are loved, you are enough. Amen.
