Making Room: An Intentional Pause for Ministry Leaders
Week Five: Making Room for Renewing Grace
DOWNLOAD A PRINTABLE OF WEEK FIVE
Silence
Be still and attentive to God’s presence within and all around you
Isaiah 52:6-7
Therefore my people shall know my name; therefore in that day they shall know that it is I who speak; here am I.
How beautiful upon the mountains
are the feet of the messenger who announces peace, who brings good news,
who announces salvation,
who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”
Meditation
Close your eyes. Breathe deeply of God’s Spirit and grace.
As a ministry leader, whatever your role, you are the messenger who announces to your people, "Your God reigns." When we're the ones who are responsible for creating a worship (or learning, or service) experience, it is easy to get caught up in the details and the doing.
Even after 18+ years of leading Christmas worship, one of the things I could count on to center me in worship is this line from verse three of "Silent Night":
Son of God, love’s pure light
radiant beams from thy holy face
with the dawn of redeeming grace...
Yes.
The promise, the hope, this movement of pure love radiating outward from the Christ-child.
This is the message we've been entrusted to carry; and it is for us, too.
Reflection
+ What helps you to release your leader identity so you--the person--can be drawn anew into God's continuing story of redeeming grace?
Silence
Breathe deeply of God’s Spirit and grace.
A Prayer for You as a Ministry Leader
Hold your hands or arms in a posture of receiving.
Gracious Lord Jesus, pour out your Spirit on your servant, (name). In joy and in weariness, guide them/me to a time of rest. Help them/me breathe deeply of your presence and peace. Free them/me from the power of doubt and worry; and immerse them/me in your radiating, renewing love. Amen.
Blessing
In darkness and in light, you are held, you are loved, you are enough. Amen.
