WHEN DO YOU MAKE TIME TO REGROUP? || I woke up this morning @wildriceretreat. It’s one of my happy places. I come here a few times a year on a personal retreat to give myself time to regroup. I love that the accommodations are calming, the setting is peaceful, and the food is delicious and nourishing for my body. I love that I don’t have to plan or pack food for these few days. It’s part of what makes this time restorative.
Depending on what’s been going on in my life, time to regroup usually includes the following::
– A change of scenery
– Doing a brain dump of tasks, responsibilities, and projects I want to tackle
– Slowing my pace to give me time to rest and relax
Whether I’m taking 10 minutes or 3 days, this time to regroup is invaluable for creating mental margin and offloading mental clutter.
For my getaway this week, my priority is on large chunks of time for deep work, especially batching content for Instagram and Facebook and finishing my detailed book outline.
But time to regroup isn’t just about getting away for a few days. Here are some smaller scale ways I do it:
– I carve out 30 minutes to an hour each Saturday or Sunday to plan the week ahead. I like this to be a leisurely process so I feel more calm and clear headed.
– I’ll head to a coffee shop for a change of scenery to get started on a writing project. Giving myself a set time in a different setting helps me move from a blank page to feeling like I have momentum.
– When we’re hosting friends for dinner, I’ll make a quick list of the things that need to happen in the order I want them to get done. Then, as I finish a task, I don’t have to decide “what’s next?” I just refer to the list because that decision has already been made.
– I’ll do something nice for myself that gives my brain a chance to rest without responsibility. For me this might include, getting acupuncture or my nails done, watching a movie, reading a book or going for a walk.
All of these are part of a larger rhythm that allow me to experience renewal no matter what is going on in my life.
